Mining farm rigs are quite different from standard PC’s which can be found in any house: there is only one graphics card in a simple computer and often integrated into the motherboard. But you will need to have at least four for mining. And simple models will not help much: the amount of cryptocurrency that you will mine directly correlates with the quality of equipment and its operating speed. If one is trying to save money when assembling a mining farm, the earned profit will hardly pay for electricity costs, plus the poor quality equipment will quickly become worthless. And that’s not to mention that each cryptocurrency has its own specifics; and graphics cards that are quite suitable for mining Ethereum, for example, may experience certain difficulties with Bitcoin.

When buying a graphics card for mining, you should pay attention to such parameters as its hash rate. The hash rate is the computer performance of the graphics card, it is measured in MegaHashes per second, and in other words, a hash rate shows how many combinations of numbers per second a particular graphics card can perform. The complexity of any network is continuously growing, and cryptocurrency mining requires an increasing hash rate, therefore, this parameter should be maximized. Energy consumption also plays an important role, because the farm must work continuously and the cost of electricity will become an obvious item in your expenses.

The best graphics cards for mining

  1. While choosing the best graphics card for mining, it is impossible to forget about the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, indeed this model has been rated to be the best for mining in 2017. Its memory is 6 gigabytes; frequency — 8,008 MHz; power consumption — 120 watts. Despite it not having the highest rates, this is a favorite option for miners around the world primarily because of its low power consumption, almost silent operation, and relatively low price. In addition, this graphics card does not tend to overheat at all, which is very important for the miner. The drawback is a fairly large size. It is excellent for Ethereum and Zcash mining.
  2. An equally attractive option is its younger sister — NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN Xp, which is by far the most powerful graphics card in the world. It has a memory of 12 gigabytes and a frequency of 11,400 MHz is unattainable for competitors. The downside is its very high power consumption (250 W) and a high price as well. It will be suitable for mining any cryptocurrency.
  3. Another interesting option is the AMD Radeon RX Vega 56. The memory capacity of this graphics card is 8 gigabytes and its power consumption is 210 watts. The frequency is 10,759 MHz. Although it has fairly acceptable attributes, this graphics card does have a tendency to overheat which can make operation more difficult. The best bet for mining with this card is Ethereum and Monero cryptocurrencies.
  4. An excellent choice for a beginner miner could be the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti as well. It has 12 gigabytes of memory and a frequency of 11,010 MHz. But, like other high-performing options, it consumes a lot of energy (260 watts). Otherwise it is a wonderful card that is made of only high-quality materials and capable of withstanding significant loads. It proves to be excellent when mining Zcash, Ethereum, Ravencoin, and ZenCash.

As they say, tastes differ and it is impossible to describe all of the nuances of a complicated and confusing business such as mining in one article. But if you approach the matter wisely, weigh all the variables, and possibly by applying several tips given in this article, you can surely succeed in this difficult business.
