One of the most popular instant messengers, “WhatsApp”, introduced a channel function starting on June 29th. Group chats can now be switched to “broadcast only” mode and only administrators can post there. In order to access the new function users need to update the application to the latest version.
You can activate the function in the group settings. To do this you need to select "administrators only" in "send messages".
The company explained that the new feature will be useful for quickly obtaining important information. Groups in “WhatsApp” have long been a popular way to receive news from educational and work groups. Updating the program allows you to get rid of unnecessary messages that hinder chat.
Users immediately noted the similarity of such functionality with popular news channels on “Telegram” messenger.
Apparently, “WhatsApp” sees “Telegram“ as a serious competitor. Although the audience of the latter is several times smaller (200 million versus 1.5 billion), the growth rates of users and their activity has become a serious concern for the IT giant, which belongs to Facebook.
Recently “WhatsApp” has been significantly revamping group chats; gradually expanding its possibilities, but at the same time becoming more like its competitor. The latest update to the application allows users to add a group description and set user privileges. A user name search was also added.
