Last week billions of insects descended upon the city. The swarms are so large that they are seen even from space.
Las Vegas is famous for its fast pace of life and highly active local population. But in the last few days, city residents are reluctant to go outside, because their home area has been invaded by swarms of grasshoppers. The insects do not pose any danger to people, but who would want to wade through hordes of grasshoppers.
There are so many insects that the black spots of their concentrations can be seen from space. Swarms of grasshoppers reflect radio waves and interfere with normal operation of meteorological radars causing certain problems to employees of local air bases.
Experts believe the emergency will last for another week. It was caused by heavy rains that created perfect living conditions for insects in the city attracting hordes of them to one place. There have been about 5 such cases over the last 50 years, but no effective insect control methods have yet been developed.
