Virgin Hyperloop One and the government of Saudi Arabia have signed a long-awaited agreement to build a test site for the vacuum train. Negotiations between the parties went on for about a year.
Saudi Arabia will soon get the world’s longest Hyperloop track. It will be located near the city of Jeddah rich in research centers and industry. The company will also build a research and development facility and manufacturing plant to produce tubes and capsules.
It takes about 10 hours to travel from Riyadh to Jeddah today. Once the track is built, the journey will be reduced to 76 minutes, as Hyperloop vacuum trains reach the speed of up to 1,220 km/h, which is about 10 times faster than any modern trains.
The Hyperloop concept was first proposed in 2013 by famous entrepreneur Elon Musk. It involves the construction of vacuum-sealed tubes inside which ultrafast capsules travel. The idea has received ample response both on the part of the business community and ordinary people.
