The IBM Q System One cannot yet be purchased, but users will be able to rent computing power

Last week, IBM presented its first commercial quantum computing product at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The new computer is called Q System One.

IBM is not yet planning to sell its latest device. Customers will be able to use a cloud interface for their quantum computing purposes. The service will be accessible by subscription for IBM’s commercial partners.

Ginni Rometty, IBM’s CEO, believes that the company will be able to make quantum computer access services profitable by 2021, which makes Q System One not only an image product, but also a potentially profitable product of the company.

CES visitors paid special attention to the design of the new product. IBM representatives shared that the computer’s exterior glass casing was created in collaboration with the developers of the system safeguarding Leonardo da Vinci’s La Gioconda in the Louvre.
