Google programmers are developing an operating system that will become a more advanced replacement for Android and will help them to compete with Apple.

The new system, called Fuchsia, will focus on controlling the devices of several gadgets via voice command, including laptops, smart phones, smart speakers, and so on. The design of the system will probably be very different from Android which was originally designed to be controlled via touchscreen.

Fuchsia first became known to the public in 2016 when the media discovered the project's repository on GitHub. Google officially put the code in open access in January of this year.

At the heart of the company's previous operating systems (Chrome OS and Android) was the Linux kernel - an independent project developed by the community with the support of the Linux Foundation. The fundamental technical difference between Fuchsia OS and previous systems is its architecture which allows applications to process incoming data without almost any delay. The developers used the new micro-kernel, Zircon, and so most Android applications will probably not work on the new system, or they will need to be specially rewritten.

Despite the absolute dominance in the mobile phone market (85%), Android is inferior to its main competitor - iOS - in speed and frequency of updates. In addition, many manufacturers are dissatisfied with the updates released by Google. Fuchsia can help the company in the technological race with Apple.

Due to the fact that mobile devices which use Android are produced by many different companies around the world, and there are no strict uniform rules for protecting data, users often have security problems. The new system will solve this problem, thanks to the strict standards of encryption and data transfer.

The official release date of Fuchsia OS has not yet been released.
