A division of the largest German airline, Lufthansa, which deals with innovation is working with the IT company, SAP, in order to host a competition for blockchain specialists. The organizers are sure that the time is right to use one of the most popular and promising technologies in the sphere of aviation and tourism.

The “Aviation Blockchain Challenge” is a way to attract specialists from the crypto-world and motivate them to create innovative solutions that will help the airlines and travel related services by using blockchain technology.

Since the companies that are organizing the competition are leaders in their industries in the global market, the initiative could be very successful. Talented specialists from all over the world will have an opportunity to present their blockchain projects and their ideas on how they could be implemented in the real world of business.

Projects submitted for the competition should be in one of three areas: airlines, travellers, or suppliers.

The first category involves the development of solutions that will help optimize the interaction of all airline structures: departments, branches, and so on – and also to improve different operations within the company, as well as with customers and business partners.

The travel-related category is for developers who come up with ideas on how blockchain can help when booking and buying airline tickets, identifying passengers, and developing loyalty programs.

The third category will combine all projects that offer solutions in the field of air transportation: from digital data storage and documentation, to quality control of transported goods.

Those who wish to participate in the “Aviation Blockchain Challenge” can apply before August 31st. The projects will receive support from experts in the field of aviation, business modeling, and blockchain. The most promising developments will be presented at the Lufthansa Innovation Forum, and the Lufthansa Group will provide a base for their implementation.

Lufthansa sees great prospects in the use of blockchain technology. The conglomerate is already working with the start-ups Winding Tree and Unibright.
