The car will perform military missions.
Steve Dumont, the President of General Motors Défense, has announced the company's new project. This will be an eLRV army reconnaissance vehicle based on the Hummer EV, revealed during a recent interview with CNBC.
According to the head of the GM military division, the car could be developed as early as next year. Still, the exact timing was not reported because it is unclear whether the Pentagon will need an eLRV. The major issue with military electric vehicles is their dependence on suitable infrastructure.
For the car to fully function and be implemented in practice, they will need to create mobile charging stations that are not dependent on an electrical network. Also, there are concerns over the reliability of replacement batteries in the event of extreme temperature changes.
However, electric vehicles still have some potential. First of all, they are relatively easy to maintain, and they are far quieter than conventional SUVs. The latter factor is extremely important when it comes to military reconning.
