The largest IT companies are switching to green energy. In 2017 Amazon provided half of the energy consumption from renewable sources, and Google moved all its units to solar and wind power.

Facebook is trying to keep up with the competition. In 2015, the company promised to provide half of its capacity with energy produced at wind and solar stations by 2018. The goal was achieved even earlier than planned – in 2017.

Now the corporation is going to completely move to renewable energy sources. According to Facebook experts this step will reduce the company's contribution to the pollution of the atmosphere by greenhouse gases by 75 percent.

In a corporate blog Facebook reports that it expects to achieve its goal in the late 2020.

For the first time Facebook has signed a contract for the supply of wind energy in 2013. Since then the company has purchased more than 3 gigawatts of solar and wind energy, with more than 2500 megawatts – just over the past year.

Some companies from other areas such as Starbucks, Walmart, Target and General Motors have also signed renewable energy agreements.
