The company plans to hand over the finished bill to the government.
Amazon's specialists are working on laws that will regulate the use of facial recognition systems, said Jeff Bezos, the company CEO. Amazon plans to hand over the ready document to the U.S. government.
Amazon decided to take the initiative to accelerate implementation of such technologies. Many features of computer face recognition are not regulated by law now. This poses danger to the security of ordinary citizens’ data in the first place, but it can also do harm to companies that have no uniform rules for such systems development.
Amazon started to develop its own bill after its new product Amazon Rekognition drew some criticism. This service enables to identify people on photos and videos in real time – to check whether they are registered in various databases, for example, in the criminal investigation one.
Amazon allows the technology to be used not only by private organizations, but also by government agencies. This has sparked protests among the company employees, who believe that it can do harm to ordinary people.
