Stijn Fransen got inked as part of an advertising campaign for T-Mobile Netherlands.
The tattoo artwork was done by a 5G robot controlled by a remote tattoo artist Wes Thomas. Through machine learning, the device learned to recognise a person's hand movements and copy their actions. The software was developed by London-based technologist Noel Drew.
Before the robot could tattoo an individual, it first had to learn how to tattoo a butternut squash. Learning how to draw, together with the new technology, the robot managed to destroy quite a few vegetables. The TV actress calmly went through the whole process. Therefore, the campaign clearly demonstrated both the new robot's capabilities and the quality of 5G communication.
