Schmidt Ocean Institute is a nonprofit oceanic fund created by Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy Schmidt. Researchers from the company recently discovered numerous rainbow-colored mineral towers at the bottom of the Gulf of California. However, they were concealed under a pile of marine debris.
It’s worth noting that this area was already researched approximately ten years ago, when no minerals were discovered. Scientists attribute their rapid growth to the emergence of new thermal sources in the Gulf of California. Chemical weathering may have played its part in accelerating the process as well, because it makes oceanic substances much more resilient.
Researchers collected samples of the water, sediment and microbes. Their dive was recorded on video. The scientists were greatly disturbed by the large amount of debris at the bottom of the Gulf. Representatives from Schmidt Ocean Institute reminded readers that the ecological problem is a serious challenge for our time, and people must do everything to keep the environment clean.
