Blockchain is a technology that is used today in various areas of business, production, and in general any activity related to management distribution. So the arrival of blockchain into the educational process should not surprise anyone. Many educational institutions around the world have already introduced courses on crypto-currencies and related technologies. Some already accept payment for tuition in bitcoins. It is now time to introduce new technologies into the very structure of universities.

Last year the company Learning Machine Technologies, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab, used a blockchain system to create a system to help monitor the issuance of academic certificates. The project was developed under open license by MIT so that any university could introduce it into its certification system.

The University of Melbourne has already started testing the system. Recognizing all the degrees and awards received before, they will develop a more diverse and complete certification system. The university is in the middle of a general widespread introduction of new technologies and has already started using blockchain technology to store information about the academic qualifications of students which they can access through a mobile application.

The use of blockchain technology will avoid possible fraud and unauthorized access to data. It will be possible to fully monitor changes in information. Any attempt to change or steal the information will cause the validation to fail.

The open source code will allow students to fully own their data and will allow them to provide access to a third party such as a potential employer when they are looking for work.
