Mobile Internet on the street and in the underground is already a common thing. But what about the mobile Internet in space?
Scientists and engineers from four companies will deploy a mobile 4G network on the Moon. The project involved Vodafone Germany, Nokia, Audi and PTScientists.
Engineers have developed a special device, through which it is possible to provide mobile communication for travelers to the moon. Weight of the device is only 1 kilogram. CEO of Vodafone Germany Hannes Ametsetter states:
“This project involves a radically innovative approach to the development of mobile network infrastructure.”
The necessary equipment will be delivered by the SpaceX Falcon 9 in 2019.
So far, the connection speed will not as fast as the speed of mobile networks on Earth. However, the new network will allow astronauts to coordinate their actions among themselves, as well as directly communicate with the control center on Earth.
This is not the first attempt to provide the Internet on the Moon. In 2014, engineers established a high-speed Internet connection with a satellite using a laser.
