Company representatives claim that the unusual construction of the drone is not purely an aesthetic choice - in fact, it will also protect the device from potential damages.
A drone shaped like a flying saucer is hardly a new idea. One of the first companies to create a similar device was Cleo Robotics in Canada. Today, Swiss startup Flybotix is following their lead.
The round shape of the drone provides excellent protection from damages and completely cuts down on noise, making this ‘flying saucer’ ideal for inspecting dangerous industrial facilities and other targets. The manufacturer that releases the first autonomous commercial drone stands to gain the most in this market.
The carrying capacity of a drone is directly connected to the span of its blades, which is why the drone released by Flybotix is equipped with two large rotors. For improved stability, they are placed in a coaxial pattern. This has a negative impact on the speed of the device, but it improves its energy efficiency compared to traditional quadcopters. The interior details of the drone are contained within a sturdy shell, which provides a high level of protection.
