The suspect is 25-year-old Ukrainian national Volodymyr Kvashuk. The damage inflicted is estimated at $10 million.
Media sources report that the former Microsoft employee had stolen $10 million worth of digital assets. Some of the illicit proceeds were spent on a $160 thousand Tesla car and a $1.7 million lakefront home.
25-year-old Ukrainian national Volodymyr Kvashuk was accused of stealing and reselling cryptocurrency gift cards available at the Microsoft office. These certificates were redeemable for Microsoft products. The suspect was operating this scheme for 7 months before he was caught. During this period, over $2.8 million was deposited into the suspect’s bank accounts.
The prosecution identified that Kvashuk had been in charge of testing the online sales platform at Microsoft.
As you may recall, several Microsoft services were hacked this spring. According to one victim’s account, his account on the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange was stolen in one of these attacks.
