A group of scientists at the University of Texas Medical Branch (USA) has developed a unique vaccine capable of protecting mankind from all Ebola strains. There are currently five knows varieties of the virus with Zaire being the deadliest of them.
It was Zaire that caused the epidemic that hit Africa a few years ago. The epicenter of 20198 Ebola outbreak in was the Republic of Congo. Code named MBP134, the new vaccine is a combination of two antibodies capable of defeating the infection.
The vaccine has already been successfully tested in monkeys and ferrets, who were given 25 mg of vaccine per kilogram of weight. The expert community holds high hopes for WB134: after the final tests and start-up of batch production, the new vaccine will reduce mortality rates in the African region and will be effective against new types of the disease, should they emerge.
Scientists agree that studies of dangerous viruses justify any costs involved, and it is the duty of every person who dedicated his life to science and medicine to do his utmost to facilitate humanitarian progress.
