Recently, the British company raised more than $7.5 million in investments, which it intends to spend to create a unique stable salt reactor.
Salt reactors are a kind of nuclear reactors, which completely preclude gas release. All reactions in the plant occur at atmospheric pressure enabling to completely eliminate the risk of hazardous substances release.
To remove energy, the tanks are filled with a safe salt coolant that does not react with the environment. It consists of a molten mixture of lithium fluoride and beryllium fluoride. Part of the power produced is transferred to a backup energy carrier and saved for emergency situations - an energy crisis, for example.
The British company Moltex Energy is currently involved in salt reactors development. The company has recently raised $7.5 million on the Shadow Fund crowd funding site. The money raised is to be spent on the technology’s licensing in the UK and Canada, as well as on further development work.
