The Chinese educational system has demonstrated more and more innovations. News has recently emerged that face recognition systems monitoring student behaviour were installed in some schools. But some educational institutions have gone even further.
As facial recognition systems have proved to be successful and, as experts note, students have become more attentive, a decision was taken to test another new technology.
Students of several institutions were obliged to wear special head hoops, which monitored the user’s brain activity. The device, called Focus 1, was developed by US scientists several years ago. With the help of EEG-sensors the gadget can measure the students ‘attention level in classes.
The received data instantly goes to the teacher, and is automatically systemised into a table showing which of the students were most engaged in the classroom activity and which were constantly distracted.
Such teaching methods have caused a great public stir: some specialists claim that such solutions will improve academic performance, while others are concerned about the children’s mental state.
