Supernal, owned by Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor Group, has started the development of an electric aerial vehicle.
In 2019, the company announced the opening of a dedicated unit responsible for developing airborne vehicles. Shin Jeewon is the head of the division and a former NASA employee with thirty years of experience.
The company recently announced a collaboration with Uber and the Miami government to introduce air car technology into the city's infrastructure after its development gets completed.
A fleet of aerial vehicles is being planned for development by Supernal. They will seat up to five people and operate in autonomous mode. Passengers will be able to call this cab using an app, just as they would do on car rental platforms. You can also configure routes independently, but all of them will run exclusively outside the city limits for safety reasons. The first commercial flight of the eVTOL will take place in 2028.
