Taser stun guns are considered to be non-lethal weapons, but they killed 49 people last year in the United States alone. In this regard, the police are carefully studying alternative ways of neutralizing criminals.
BolaWrap from Wrap Industries is a device the size of a large mobile phone. When the trigger is activated, the device fires a 2.5-meter rope moving at a speed of about 200 m/s. It tightly entangles the offender's body, and the offender falls to the ground.
Unlike shockers or pepper spray balls, BolaWrap can do almost no harm: the only thing that threatens an wrongdoer is a few scratch marks sustained as a result of the fall. One can also get a couple of bruises from the serrated balls on both ends of the cable securing more effective tying, but one can't die from such an injury.
The range of the weapon is 8 meters. The device has recently been tested by law enforcement agencies in New Zealand, the United States and Australia.
