Despite the fact that the billionaire is actively looking towards space, he decided to build his own city on Earth, closer to home.
This was announced by the founder of the space exploration corporation, entrepreneur Elon Musk. Over the past seven years, he and his team have extensively transformed the test spaceport in South Texas — they built new houses and even installed a massive bronze bust of Musk himself.
The territory of the new city covers approximately 400 hectares. Before SpaceX began purchasing land in the area around the village of Boca Chica, it was rather sparsely populated. Now, more than 250 SpaceX employees and their family members live there — nearly a thousand people in total. Musk stated that he had long wanted to expand and transform the area surrounding Starbase, to build more homes and structures so that all employees would feel comfortable. According to the entrepreneur, more than three thousand specialists had been forced to commute to work from remote locations.
Voters in South Texas supported the entrepreneur’s initiative — the majority voted in favor of transforming the Starbase spaceport into an independent city and implementing the corresponding reforms. This entails the formation of local governing bodies in the near future — a city mayor and two appointed commissioners. They will be responsible for taxation and other governmental processes. Naturally, all authorized officials are SpaceX employees. Nevertheless, there are residents of neighboring areas who oppose this decision and accuse SpaceX of causing significant environmental damage. However, city status has already been granted to Starbase, and the new administration will independently oversee all construction and innovation projects.
In addition to leading SpaceX, Elon Musk is also the CEO and principal shareholder of Tesla — a company that produces electric vehicles, charging stations, and energy storage systems. He is one of the co-founders of OpenAI and the owner of another company engaged in artificial intelligence development, xAI.
Previously, Elon Musk was suspected of wanting to create a legion of his own children. According to publicly available data, the entrepreneur has at least 14 children. Many speculate that the actual number of heirs is even higher than reported. Participants in a Wall Street Journal investigation are convinced that the billionaire is excessively concerned about the world’s strained demographic situation, and therefore is personally addressing the issue by populating the Earth with his brilliant descendants.
