The Chinese electronics manufacturer has released 15 generations of smartphones. Earlier, Apple presented the seventeenth line of iPhones.
Xiaomi wants to become a direct competitor to the American corporation in the premium segment, so its next line of smartphones will also be numbered 17, deliberately skipping the previous number.
Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun clarified that the company began implementing its strategy of entering the premium segment five years ago. Now Jun and the corporation’s president, Lu Weibing, are confident that in the near future Chinese smartphones will be on par with the iPhone. Weibing also noted that the new line represents a significant technological leap, so calling it the 16th would be illogical.
Currently, more than 60% of sales of phones priced from $600 and above belong to Apple. At the same time, Apple’s product range is limited to smartphones, laptops, iPads, headphones, and auxiliary gadgets such as styluses, computer mice, and smart speakers. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has expanded its product line so much that it now includes household appliances, home goods, and even electric cars.
The Xiaomi 17 line will appear at the end of September. The Xiaomi 17 series includes three flagship devices — Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
