WaveFlyer is the first ever jetski with an electric propulsion attached to its hydrofoils. The project was first launched in Australia in 2015.
In 2015, a group of Australian developers started working on an updated version of the electric jetski. Four years later, the project has gone through many changes: the construction of the vehicle was changed, along with its name. Today, the device is called WaveFlyer, and it is set to become the first ever hydrofoil jetski in the world.
The WaveFlyer concept is centered around the dual-action principle. When the device is still or moving slowly, it is impossible to distinguish from a regular jetski. However, once WaveFlyer reaches a certain speed, the device is lifted into the air. It is propelled by two underwater hydrofoils which are invisible to the naked eye, contributing to the illusion of flight.
There is a major advantage to this principle: when the vehicle is raised above the water, its resistance is minimal. WaveFlyer is equipped with a 2 kWh battery, which is enough for 30 minutes of active use. The vehicle can carry two riders. No information about the maximum speed has been revealed yet.
