Hyperloop is an entirely new form of transport invented by the entrepreneur Elon Musk. The project is being implemented by Virgin Hyperloop.
Hyperloop is a tunnel through which vacuum capsules travel with passengers inside. The company recently carried out its first-ever passenger tests. Co-founder, Josh Gigel, and director of customer relations Sarah Lucian took the very first ride on Hyperloop.
The tests took place at the DevLoop’s 500m test site in Las Vegas. Josh and Sarah sat in a two-seater XP-2 capsule, which achieved a speed of up to 172 km/h. In the future, serial capsules will be designed for twenty-eight passengers, with a hypothetical speed that will reach the trans-sonic speed. It should be noted that during previous tests with a variety of different loads on board, the maximum speed reached 387 km/h. The difference between the announced speed and the actual speed is due to safety issues.
The company plans to obtain a safety certificate by 2025. After 2030, Virgin Hyperloop will begin serving commercial passengers.
