The US Army Developing Robots That Can Understand Commands

The new military robots should be more independent so that they could be entrusted with a greater number of tasks and reduce the number of human soldiers needed in dangerous areas.

Robotized machines are an excellent solution to minimize the likelihood of casualties during hostilities. However, the biggest challenge up to now has been that such robots lacked intelligence. They were either able to follow only the simplest commands, or operate under remote control and be fully managed by an operator.

The solutions being developed by US military specialists are aimed at creating more autonomous and intelligent robots that would not need constant supervision. The new software will enable the combat machines to understand their commander’s verbal instructions and follow his commands. Moreover, military staff will be able to continuously receive progress reports and monitor what is happening in locations dangerous to humans.

The first tests showed that the robots could follow instructions, perform fairly complex tasks while overcoming various obstacles.
