Engineers have created an unusual flying machine that resembles a dragonfly. The ornithopter moves by flapping its wings.
The Serenity is a three-meter device with six wings and an autonomous power supply. Externally, the aircraft looks like a gigantic insect. The device is not yet suitable for a full-fledged crewed flight, but, like real dragonflies, it is highly manoeuvrable.
The value of the design lies in the possibility of using it to create more complex machines. Of course, we are unlikely to see an aeroplane with such wings, but such devices could be extremely useful in certain industries.
