The scientists Marek Carliner from the University of Tel Aviv and Jonathan Rosner from the University of Chicago  have published  the article in Nature, where they theoretically described quark synthesis, the new possible source of the renewable energy.

In the course of experiments conducted at the Large Hadron Collider, atoms are accelerated to enormous speeds, at which they begin to disconnect subatomic particles - quarks. Further quarks interact with each other, forming baryons - more stable particles consisting of three or five quarks. Examples of baryons are the proton and the neutron, which make up the atomic nuclei.

This interaction of quarks did not stay unnoticed by the researchers. It turned out that the energy liberated during the formation of baryons is several times greater than that released in nuclear fusion.

Carliner and Rosner did not immediately publish their results, because they were afraid that the discovery will create a weapon similar to a hydrogen bomb, only many times more powerful. But a too short lifetime of quarks is not enough to trigger a chain reaction, so there is no danger of using the discovery in the development of weapons of mass destruction. But so far there is no possibility to use it for peaceful purposes.

Next step will be to create and test a number of experimental facilities which will help scientists come closer to development of technologies of practical application of quark synthesis. These researches may become a theoretical base for building a real technology for implementing the new powerful and safe energy source
