What would happen if all the oceans on the planet dried up? The answer to this question can be found in a new video from planetologist James O’Donoghue.
The depths of the world’s oceans conceal an enormous number of mountain ridges, continental shelf, and many other interesting places and territories. But what would happen if all our oceans disappeared and it would be possible to travel between continents by land? NASA scientist James O’Donoghue created a simulation of this scenario.
On his YouTube channel, the planetologist posted a video showing our planet with no water. The original video was actually created by another NASA scientist, Horace Mitchell, 12 years ago. O’Donoghue edited the original footage, correcting several details and adding a series of important notes.
Now any Internet user can take a look at the gradual transformation of the Earth into a giant desert. Without any water, our planet looks a bit like Mars. Who knows - maybe the Red Planet was also covered in oceans at some point in time? In any case, there is definitely some ice on the planet now.
