The jacket will facilitate understanding on the road and help cyclists express their individuality.
Ford has partnered with Designworks studio to create a new type of cycling equipment. It is a jacket with an LED panel on the back which is separated into pixel sectors. Cyclists can use them to communicate with other road users: informing them of their intention to turn, sending out danger signals, or simply sharing their feelings. The jacket can display three types of emojis: happy, angry, or neutral. Cyclists can manually activate the signals with a control panel on their handlebars.
According to the creators of the jacket, these features will facilitate understanding between road users. For example, when a car driver sees an angry emoji, they will understand that something is wrong and potentially increase the distance between their vehicle and the cyclist. Misunderstandings on the road lead to numerous casualties, which is why any measures to resolve these issues should be welcomed with open arms.
