The German company Festo has introduced a new generation of devices.
The first robot - the next version of BionicSwift - was created in collaboration with Bionic Learning Network. This is an autonomous robot bird with ergonomic wings. Its wingspan is 68 cm, body length - 44.5 cm, weight - 42 grams. The feathers are made of carbon fibre and can independently change the angle of inclination to reduce air resistance.
The machine does not have its own navigation, but it is equipped with a radio transmitter connected to a computer for transmitting commands. Thanks to the beacons located on the flight zone, the program independently draws up a route, directing the robot bird “blindly”. Hypothetically, this can be useful in dealing with fires or in rooms filled with poisonous gas.
The second gadget was created with the support of ETH Zurich. It is an autonomous manipulator arm on rotating support called Bionic Mobile Assistant. The chassis allows the device to move and turn on its own, and the structure of the gadget is mind-blowingly similar to an ordinary human hand. Bionic Mobile Assistant is nimble enough to interact even with very fragile objects and to wield working tools. Initially, the gadget was supposed to act as a service assistant.
