Baltimore is an industrial city in the east of the United States. Local researchers have recently created an excavator control system using Stanley Black & Decker’s gaming joystick.
The vehicle involved in testing was equipped with a remote control system that allows to manipulate heavy loads both from inside the excavator cab and remotely. Demolition hammers and grapplers as well as hydraulic shears were used in the tests.
The company is currently running further tests of the technology. For this purpose, it intends to recruit several contractors. For the purity of the experiment, the exotic control system will be tested on different excavator types weighing up to 10 tonnes.
According to Stanley Black & Decker, the remote control system can be installed in 5 hours. Even an average user who does not have much knowledge of mechanics can perform the task. The technology allows to switch between control types at the touch of a button.
