What associations do you have with drones? Should it be an interesting toy with remote control? Or do you imagine great videos recorded from the height of the bird? Or maybe you dream that a good you ordered on Internet will fly to your door? Matternet company is already working on that!
Carrier pigeon of the 21st century
On the 20th September the company called Matternet has presented on YouTube the concept of the drone-carrier M2 Drone. These technological pigeons were already tested in Switzerland: they have delivered blood and other medical samples. During the next years the company together with hospitals will test drones in different situations and look for optimal logistic.
Until then Matternet does not see any sense in a big centralized airport for drones where they will fly off. CEO Matternet Andreas Raptopulos is offering now to install station in hospitals and save precious minutes needed for delivery.
According to Andreas the usage of drones for medical matters will significantly decrease costs hospitals are spending for external service providers if they urgently need to transport samples to other place.
The way of delivery is very easy by the way: you just put your package in a red box and bring it to drone which reads the entire information from a QR code. You out the box in the drone and it is ready to take off. As soon as the technical pigeon will get to the area of the station of the other hospital, there will be already in place a mini-airfield ready for landing.
Logistical miracle
The possibility of freights and goods delivery by air is a dream of many entrepreneurs and logistic companies. Dornes don’t get in such troubles like car accidents or traffic jams entering metropolitan areas.
«And what about weather conditions?» — some of you will ask. And they are absolutely right! A drone is not a heavy machine which only hurricane can lift. Now bad weather is the major enemy of drones. But of course the developers from different IT-giants are already looking for a solution.
For instance Matternet is now actively developing intellectual modes for drones able to calculate best routes in terms of the drone and freight safety.
Dorens for medical matters are also developed to african countries suffering from infrastructure shortcomings. The company called Zipline, another startup from the Silicon Valley is working on that. The are also specializing on blood and vaccines delivery to Rwanda and Tanzania. The US company UPS introduced a drone able to deliver small freights from a rooftop of a truck.
But all these companies are testing drones in not crowded places. Bt Matternet is aimed to make such delivery possible in big cities. That means soon you will be ready to order a devilery directly to your balcony!
