The country’s Armed Forces have announced a new program for the removal of space junk from the Earth’s orbit. The government agency is inviting all enthusiasts to join this noble cause.
Garbage pollution is a big problem today - not only on our planet, but also in space. If we don’t want to make matters worse, we need to find some ways to solve it.
Canada’s Department of National Defence has made a call for ideas and proposals to solve this crisis. The department has admitted that they lack the technical capabilities for an operation of this scale, which is why they decided to open the issue to the public. The best idea will be practically implemented, however there has been no mention of a reward yet.
Submissions will be accepted during a month, then a winner will be announced. The submitted system needs to be able to handle various sizes of debris while maintaining cost efficiency. The ministry has already received several submissions, but all of them have been rejected. For example, low efficiency and high costs led to the rejection of a space junk harpooning system.
