The press service of Volkswagen Group Components has unveiled the robot prototype for charging electric cars.
The mobile robot has a manipulator arm and can move around a car park independently, connecting electric cars to mobile batteries with a charging capability of 50 kW. The robot has been fitted with a laser scanner and ultrasonic sensors, enabling it to freely circumnavigate the space around it. The device is synchronised with a mobile app.
The robot is currently in development now, and the launch date is still to be revealed. In 2021, Volkswagen intends to introduce a hybrid charging station and develop a DC power unit.
