Pentagon has been reported to be working on a new generation of lasers. The devices can be used to transmit voice messages or even deafen a potential enemy.
Lasers operate by firing laser beams at short time intervals. It allows the device to remove electrons from air along the entire beam trajectory and create plasma. Then, a second laser tuned to the desired frequency works. The resulting plasma has the ability to vibrate generating sound waves of up to 155 decibels that affect the enemy.
The resulting effect can be compared with that of light-and-noise grenades. However, the laser does not necessarily have to be used as a weapon, because the technology provides for the transmission of voice messages, such as orders to military units. Laser beams can pass through glass and reflect off mirror surfaces. They cannot travel through solids.
The device’s operation range is 100 metres so far, but this indicator will be considerably improved in the future.
