Spot successfully handled a reconnaissance mission during an army exercise.
The French army performed a unique military exercise involving their trainee soldiers and the Spot robots from Boston Dynamics. The training was held at the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan military school. The army confirms that the activities were not a covert advertisement for the robot: the manufacturing company was unaware of the event. The robots were hired through third-party distributors.
The army leaders had set themselves the task of teaching their soldiers how to interact with complex equipment. The Spot robots successfully handled their mission which consisted in taking on surveillance and moving a variety of equipment. The robots worked rather slowly yet cohesively. The only problem during the exercise turned out to be a sudden battery drain in one of the army vehicles.
