The company’s engineers made several changes to make the car more affordable.
The Swedish automotive startup introduced the final design of their Uniti One electric city car. The first customers will be able to purchase the car next year.
Uniti started with a crowdfunding campaign in 2016. The developers evaluated their eco-friendly transport development for European cities at $1 million. The first Uniti One prototype with two passenger seats was presented last year. This was a compact concept car, and one of its greatest advantages was its low price - under $20 000.
Following the first presentation, the engineers continued their developments, making several structural changes. For instance, they added another passenger seat. The new version of Uniti One has one driver’s seat in front, with two passenger seats in the second row. The back seats can be folded to transport cargo.
The company previously promised that the electric car would reach a maximum speed of 130 km/h, however, the maximum speed of the current model is limited to 120 km/h. The new version also has less battery capacity: the 22 kWh battery was replaced by a 12 kWh version. But even this version is enough to travel 150 km in the vehicle.
Customers have the option of selecting a more powerful version with a range of 300 km from a single charge. The rapid charge device can bring the battery from one-fifth to four-fifths of its maximum capacity in just two hours.
The final price of the basic configuration of Uniti One will be $19 000, including a government subsidy. Residents of the United Kingdom and Switzerland will be the first to get a chance to purchase the vehicle in 2020.
