The device allows the user to move while remaining on the spot.
Virtual reality has been one of the main trends in the video game industry in recent years, and it seems that the American startup Ekto VR has found a way to make VR entertainment even more realistic.
The new gadget is lightweight robotic boots with rotating plates on the soles. When the user takes a step, the shoe moves in the opposite direction and the person remains standing in the same place. In case the user is standing still, the brakes hold the plates and provide steadiness.
Ekto One solves the problem of the image not being on par with the player’s physical sensations. VR game characters are always moving, while the player remains in place, which often leads to gamers becoming dizzy and getting airsick. However, if the user begins to physically move around the room, they risk bumping into various obstacles. But then again, Ekto One provides the user with a complete walking simulation without any health risk. Unfortunately, you won’t find this device on offer in the near future: the company is focused on corporate users and plans to improve the product remarkably in the next few years.
