Full switch to clean energy will cost about $73 trillion.
Calculations made by scientists show that by the middle of the century, mankind has a realistic chance to make a full switch to renewable energy sources. It will not only prevent environmental collapse, but also allow mankind to spend less on healthcare and environmental protection. However, each country will stop using hydrocarbon fuels according to its own scenario.
Stanford scientists have described necessary steps using which 143 countries will be able to switch to alternative energy by 2050.
Their proposals include full electrification of the energy sector, switching to electric and hydrogen transport, and developing an infrastructure of solar, wind and hydroelectric power stations.
According to the calculations quoted in the article, by 2030 mankind will be able to provide itself with clean energy by 80% completely switching to renewables by 2050.
Switching to clean energy would require about $ 73 trillion in investment. Scientists emphasize that it is a kind of long-term investment that should pay off fully over time, in particular, through savings in such areas as healthcare, environmental protection, as well as cheaper electricity.
